Convictions & What They Mean for Members Who Disagree

Because each of us is led by the Holy Spirit speaking to us through the Bible and our interactions within the Christian community, Christians of good conscience may find themselves in disagreement with one or more of Windwood’s Convictions.  Membership at Windwood does not require that any person share every Conviction stated here in order to remain in community with us.  However, disagreement among members within our community carries some responsibility.

  • Disagreement from all sides of an issue must be expressed respectfully and in an orderly manner.  Above all else, we are called to love one another.  This applies especially when we disagree.

  • For those positions held contrary to Windwood’s Convictions, Members must either passively submit (meaning not organizing actions counter to these Convictions within the Church) or peacefully withdraw from membership at Windwood.  This does NOT mean that someone cannot express a differing Conviction respectfully to other members, whether individually or at church-wide functions.  Respectful expression of a differing Conviction is to be expected in a Christian community where each person is following the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

  • For those who wish to request that Session review a Conviction because of an alternative view that is based on Biblical authority, contact the Clerk of Session to arrange for a presentation to Session.  Click here to make a request for reconsideration of a Conviction by Session.
